The Biography
Scholar. Physician. Statesman.
Đuro Macut is a Serbian endocrinologist, academic and statesman serving as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia since 2025. He is a rare figure in modern European politics — an independent public servant whose authority is grounded not in a long party career, but in decades of scientific scholarship, medical leadership and principled public engagement.
Born on 22 November 1963, Professor Macut built a distinguished medical and academic career at the University of Belgrade School of Medicine, where his scholarship in clinical endocrinology, reproductive medicine and metabolic disease earned international recognition. He has mentored a generation of Serbian physicians and contributed more than one hundred peer-reviewed publications to the global scientific community.
In March 2025, he was a founding member of the Movement for the People and the State, a civic-minded political platform committed to institutional integrity, evidence-based policy and the long-term modernization of the Republic. Shortly thereafter, he was nominated and appointed Prime Minister of Serbia during the presidency of Aleksandar Vučić — becoming only the third independent politician to be entrusted with this high office.
His tenure has been defined by a measured tone, an academic's respect for data and a physician's discipline in addressing root causes rather than symptoms. Under his leadership, the Government of Serbia has set out an ambitious programme of reform in healthcare, economic development, digital government and European partnership.
